Honda revisited the workbench to improve and further craft the perfect adventure, taking the legendary Africa Twin back to blueprints to revisit what makes it such an incredible adventure machine. With inspiration that ranges back nearly 30 years, thanks to incredible generational success. After time away, it's ready to soar again.
For 2020, the Africa Twin is revitalised, launching with an incredible, more powerful 1100cc engine which has an increased peak power and torque, up by 5Kw/5Nm. The parallel twin-cylinder engine is stronger throughout the rev-range, enabling for easier and instantaneous access to its incredible pulling power completely on demand. Pushed even further with better efficiency too, thanks to a carefully optimised new Electronic Control Unit (ECU) and a new throttle body, feeding a redesigned cylinder head for an even more refined and enhanced throttle feel and response.
But it wasn't just the core of the beast, the engine that was revisited. The entire Africa Twin has taken leaps forward, to enable a new generation of adventure riders to take control at the helm. Receiving a host of new technology across the board, to further enable your journeys to remain under your full control.
An engaging, full-colour 6.5 inch TFT touchscreen display leads the head the Africa Twin, displaying vital information during your exploration, with easy access to riding modes, navigation plus official Apple CarPlay® and bluetooth smartphone integration for when you want to remain connected to the outside world. In the front of the intimidating stare, dual LED headlights with Daytime Running Lights illuminate your path, with a signature look. Automatically adjusting to the conditions, their brightness scales with your environment, ensuring ultimate clarity.
A new IMU-controlled ABS unit manages your braking force completely on the fly, relative to lean angle, speed of deceleration and front and rear wheel slip ratio, maintaining traction to the limit of adhesion. Rear wheel lift is also controlled. All of these features are completely rider controlled too, with help of the riding modes, which enable rear brake ABS to be switched off, under the off-road setting to ensure you have what you need, when you need it.
The IMU previously mentioned, is a 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), which works to constantly monitor the dynamic movement of your ride to ensure that all the systems at play understand the conditions you're dominating. Giving precise management to the Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), Wheelie Control and Engine Brake through four default riding modes, plus two customisable user modes.
Finally, the incredible new look garners attention from onlookers from the pavement, through to the competition you leave behind in your trail. Sharp angles and gorgeously smooth contours decorate the rugged frame, while still offering a beautiful, street-ready look. Signature, bold and impressive, the colours perfectly match the sculpted shapes, leaving nothing to be desired. Small accented details such as the frame, neatly tucking under the tail or the 3D effect shielding panels past the fuel tank provide real world aerodynamic benefit, all while adding to the majestic grandeur of the Africa Twin. The result? A machine truly built for its environment.
The best part? This is the base model.. there's even more to come.
Honda also revisited the incredible Africa Twin Adventure Sports model, adding to the premium appeal by advancing it to new heights.

Firstly, the Africa Twin Adventure Sports model can be equipped with an optional Showa EERA™ electronically adjusting suspension, guaranteeing optimal performance all the time. Drawing real-time information from the front and rear stroke sensors, IMU and Cornering ABS systems, allowing the ride to read the road using its array of knowledge, while still accommodating for the riding mode selected by the user.
Also equippable, a unique optional Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) can be added to your build, with automatic and manual shifting as well as the G Switch which reduces the amount of clutch slip during gear changes to help the rear rear wheel initiate sliding during off-road riding.
